Hello, dear readers! Today, I’m thrilled to talk about a delightful addition to the Rokesbys series by Julia Quinn—First Comes Scandal. If you’re a fan of the Bridgerton series, you’re in for a treat with this prequel that brings us a charming, unconventional love story filled with all the wit and warmth we’ve come to expect from Quinn.

First Comes Scandal Book Summary

First Comes Scandal centers around the unexpected romance between Nicholas Rokesby and Georgiana Bridgerton. Georgiana is the youngest Bridgerton sister and finds herself in quite the predicament—through no fault of her own, she’s been compromised and is facing ruin. But Georgie is nothing if not strong-willed and refuses to marry the man who put her in this situation.

Enter Nicholas Rokesby, Georgiana’s childhood friend and the fourth son of an earl. When his father insists that he marry Georgie to save her reputation, Nicholas is initially reluctant. He’s a medical student with no plans for marriage in the near future. However, as he spends more time with Georgie, he realizes that perhaps marrying his old friend isn’t such a terrible idea after all.

What follows is a heartwarming journey from friendship to love, with plenty of humor, banter, and the kind of slow-burn romance that will make you swoon. As Nicholas and Georgie navigate their new relationship, they discover that sometimes the best matches are the ones that catch you by surprise.

First Comes Scandal Book Review

First Comes Scandal is an absolute gem of a novel, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Julia Quinn has a way of creating characters that feel like old friends, and Nicholas and Georgiana are no exception. Their story is a testament to the idea that love can grow in the most unexpected places, and that sometimes, the person you’ve known all your life is the one you’re meant to be with.

Georgiana Bridgerton is a breath of fresh air as a heroine. She’s intelligent, fiercely independent, and determined not to let society dictate her life. Her refusal to marry the man who wronged her shows her strength of character, and I loved seeing her stand up for herself. At the same time, she’s vulnerable and unsure of what the future holds, which makes her journey to happiness all the more relatable.

Nicholas Rokesby, on the other hand, is the perfect blend of honorable and endearing. He’s not your typical hero—he’s a bit bookish, focused on his studies, and entirely unprepared for marriage. But that’s what makes his transformation so enjoyable to watch. As he realizes his feelings for Georgie, you can’t help but fall for him right along with her.

One of the things I appreciated most about this book is how it captures the essence of a marriage of convenience while making it feel fresh and new. Nicholas and Georgie’s relationship is built on a foundation of friendship, which gives their romance a depth and authenticity that I found truly satisfying. Their banter is lighthearted and fun, and their growing affection for one another is both sweet and believable.

Quinn’s trademark humor is also on full display here. The witty exchanges between the characters and the humorous situations they find themselves in kept me smiling throughout the book. But what really stands out is the emotional resonance of the story. Both Nicholas and Georgie have to come to terms with their changing feelings and the expectations placed upon them, and watching them navigate these challenges together is incredibly rewarding.

Final Thoughts

First Comes Scandal is a delightful, heartwarming read that will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart. Julia Quinn has once again crafted a story that is equal parts charming and romantic, with characters you can’t help but love.

If you’re a fan of the Bridgerton series or just love a good historical romance, I highly recommend picking up First Comes Scandal. It’s a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best love stories are the ones that start with a little bit of scandal and a whole lot of heart.
